Employee Spotlight Series: Jeremy Neuman

Blog Employee Spotlight

This post is a part of our new employee spotlight series. In this series, we have various members of the CipherHealth team share their experiences, advice, and personal interests. For more information on how you can join our team, visit our careers page.

In this spotlight, we spoke with Jeremy Neuman, Product Manager at CipherHealth.

What is your role within CipherHealth?

    • I am currently the product manager for our Patient Intake and Care Management products. These are two of our newer products, so I am helping to develop both the features and functionality of these technologies by working with end users to understand what we can do to best meet their needs.

Could you walk us through a day in your role?
A typical day starts with a morning stand-up meeting with my development team to check in on progress and review any questions blocking their work. As a product manager, I work to ensure that any obstacles are overcome quickly. Daily stand ups allow greater communication and visibility into day to day work without taking too much time away from the development work.

After the morning stand up I generally spend some time testing completed features to ensure they meet acceptance criteria or alternatively, I provide feedback for improvements when needed. Throughout the day, I get to work with both the sales and client success teams to discuss potential opportunities or clients needing support. By focusing on newer products, I am taking a multi-disciplinary approach to discover the best ways we can tailor our technologies to new use cases. This means diving into feature requests to understand the core problem a client has that technology can help resolve and using what I have learned to prioritize work and plan for our long-term roadmap.

What is your favorite thing about working at CipherHealth?
I really appreciate the amount of possibilities there are to be an “owner” within the company. Whether it is taking ownership for the direction of a product, the success of a client account, or getting an internal project going, there are countless opportunities to explore your own entrepreneurial drive by living our core value of “just do it”. Our culture allows team members at all levels to feel they are adding meaningful value to the company. I think this benefit is essential to having the sort of personal investment that drives an individual to spend the time and effort seeing something through to fruition and being passionate enough to make it a success.

Can you tell us about a fun project you have worked on recently?
I was recently involved in helping launch a program for a new client, which happens to be a large Accountable Care Organization (ACO). This organization had one of the most complex workflows I’d ever seen – which is impressive considering the amount of variability every care management team has.

When the initial proposal was first brought to the product team, we thought it was going to be impossible to translate their needs and get to their end goal. However, after several rounds of conversation and iteration with the client, we understood the core aspects of their needs and. By working hand in hand with end users and organizational leadership, we understood exactly what their team would need. From there we pieced together the features we needed to leverage already within the platform, in addition to identifying some valuable new features that would drive success within their unique process. Although this was a big challenge, it was the kind of work that gives you a great sense of accomplishment. Not only did we help give the client something no one else could, but we were able to work together as a team to make it happen

What advice would you give someone just starting out in a healthcare career?
I certainly recommend getting really really good at memorizing acronyms! In all seriousness though, the best advice I can give is to always keep in mind the interconnected nature of the healthcare industry – government, payer, provider, patient, etc.. By understanding the complex system and how it works, you can understand where the levers and initiatives for change exist and more importantly, you can eventually figure out which area most piques your interest and could use your skill set to drive improvements. With healthcare, there is so much that you can do to make care provider and patient lives better. This is one of the most fulfilling aspects of working for a company like CipherHealth and understanding when you can fill gaps and make changes for the better is key to your long-term success.

And finally, what do you like to do outside of CipherHealth?
I consider myself to be a very outdoorsy and active person so I really enjoy everything from cycling and skiing to spikeball in the park. Anything that gets me out in the sun with friends makes me a happy camper.
