My grandmother was a visiting nurse into her 70s, working in Vermont and visiting patients well into an age when a nurse should have been visiting her. Snow, rain, nothing stopped her. She was indomitable. It was a time well before digital rounding, the ACA, capitated payments, and at the end I doubt she was even collecting payments for these visits. It was just the right thing to do. It was community health, care continuity, and a lot of love.
