A recent post by Healthcare IT News discussed the advancement of technology and how it will impact healthcare and the health of individudals. The article goes on to explain that in the increasingly innovative world, we are constantly experiencing new digital technologies that make our lives easier. The first stage of digital was the invention of internet when we were given information and content at our fingertips. The second stage of digital has been about mobility. Being mobile on our phones, internet, computers, and connected devices has given us the freedom to enhance our lives on the go. Now we are entering the “third wave of digital” – the era of “living services.” This third wave of digital will hit the healthcare industry first, and according to Accenture officials, “organizations – including healthcare organizations – will be soon providing a ‘new wave of transformative digital services.’” This wave will produce wearables, mobile health platforms, self-health tracking devices, as well as other products.
So what are “living services?” In healthcare we are already experiencing these living services every day with things like Fitbits and iWatches. These devices will create a healthcare revolution that will include apps and platforms that will make care hyper-individualized. They will give patients more power and control over their own health and their healthcare experience. Ideally, these devices will empower consumers to take control over their health, but at the same time cause little to no disruption in their daily routines. Here at CipherHealth we have embraced the “third wave of digital” by providing hyper-personalized patient engagement tools without overburdening the patient. Moving forward we are excited to see the new wave of living services will evolve not only individual patient experiences, but also the healthcare industry as a whole.
