My sister goes to school in Paris and was recently admitted to the hospital through an emergency room visit. I had to take a last minute flight to Paris to get her and bring her home. Needless to say, I was scared out of my mind when I got the call at 3am asking me to come get her, so I can’t even imagine how she felt. She was alone, in a foreign country, with only a few months’ worth of language lessons under her belt.
I finally arrived 30 hours later to find my sister all smiles in her hospital room. Not only was she happy to see me and go home – she had been so well taken care of by the nurses there. They turned all her fear into a positive experience. In fact, when I rushed up to the nurses’ station in a flurry and exclaimed, “I’m here for my sister!” they looked at me and said, “oh, Christina, yes.” They knew her well after just a short stay because that’s their job – to make sure every patient feels cared for and is looked after. I can’t thank them and nurses everywhere enough for taking such good care of their patients.
